April 2nd is Autism Awareness Day. This is the fastest growing mental disability in the US and yet, so few are educated about its symptoms, causes, and treatments. Here are a few facts for you to chew on...

• 1 in 150 children are diagnosed with Autism in the US. This rate is skewed though. The rate for boys is much higher than girls, affecting boys five times as frequently as girls.

• Autism is more common than MS, CP or childhood cancer, but only receives 5% of the total funding for these diseases.

• Autism currently affects more than 1,500,000 children and young adults in the US.

• Autism has an annual cost of $90 billion worldwide That annual cost is expected to rise to $200-$400 billion by the year 2014

• Some of the most effective treatments for autism include megadoses of supplements and vitamins, chelation, hyperbaric chamber dives, and removal diets such as GFCF, SCD or GAPS.
